Morgan Savatgy, "Cinderella," received the Best Actress Award.
This is an unprecedented achievement for Thomasville City Schools, and we congratulate our Drama Program! The One Act Play team won 1st place against 5 other schools in Region 1-AA on October 22 in Fitzgerald to be named the GHSA Region 1-AA One Act Champions.
At the Region competiton, Best Supporting Actor Award went to the "Wolf," Walt Tucker and All Star Cast awards went to the "Baker," Jacob Rieber and to "Little Red Riding Hood," Malley Celaya.
Brian Ray, professor of English and Theatre at ABAC served as a judge at the region competition and said that he had not seen a more effective “tableau” in 40 years when he complimented the students on their freeze scenes.
“I had to keep reminding myself that it was a group of high school students performing the play,” said Ray. “I was enthralled.”
The trained and certified GHSA judges gave one important piece of constructive criticism: the need for body microphones at the state-level competition.
TCSDP receives no funding besides what is raised through ticket sales and donations. They had two weeks to raise money to pay for body microphones and a professional sound technician to synchronize the sound with the flow of the play.
TCSDP would like to thank the community for their financial support through various monetary donations as well as their paid attendance at two community perfomances. TCSDP could not have achieved this state-level victory without the continuous support of their families and the community of Thomasville.
