Jay Rome, former tight end for the Georgia Bulldogs and UGA graduate stopped by to motivate, encourage, and read to Susanne Boykins-Rome's Honors English class at Thomasville City Scholars Academy. Rome discussed the importance of having short and long term goals. Short term goals such as being successful on the GA Milestones test and long terms goals such as obtaining a college degree and having a career were emphasized. Rome is shown reading, "The Magician's Hat," a short story written by Malcolm Mitchell, former wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs and UGA graduate. Students were extremely engaged and analyzed the book, discussing the theme and elements of literature related to the short story. After the motivational speech, students were able to ask questions, take pictures, and get autographs. Rome and Mitchell are currently in training for the NFL draft and are at home for Easter break before returning to NFL training camps.
