The String Orchestra of Thomasville City Schools traveled to Orlando on March 1-4 to compete in Festival Disney. Students from Thomasville High School and Scholars Academy and selected 8th grade students from MPMS and Scholars Academy represented the Thomasville City Schools. The student performers were adjudicated by three judges and received a Superior Rating for their performance of three pieces: Spartacus by Brian Balmages, Violet's Tango by Doug Spata, and Danse Infernale by Elliot Del Borgo. The Superior rating was for overall playing ability and preparation of the music. In addition, they received the top score in their division, earning a Gold trophy. They earned more points and beat out other schools in their division. The String Orchestra will complete locally in the Georgia Music Educators Association, District 2, as the only String Orchestra in their District on Wednesday, March 14 at Cairo High School.
